Elks Lodges bring so much more to their communities than just a building, golf course or pool. They are places where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up.
Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet need, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
- Elks in Alexandria, Va., hold a soup kitchen at the Lodge each weekday at lunch, serving 30 people, many of whom are veterans.
- Wheeling, W.Va., Elks Lodge hosts local youth once a week for a wholesome meal. They also provide homework help and invite community leaders to speak at the meals.
- Elks in Lockport, N.Y., provide an annual weeklong summer camp tailored to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
- Elks in Ouray, CO, present scholarships to local deserving children, Easter egg, support the veterans, and many more fine helping situations.
The Ouray Elks Lodge BPOE #492 has been a cornerstone for the county since being founded on June 6th, 1899. The lodge itself was built in 1905 and its historic charm and beauty has captivated many visitors ever since. The Ouray ELKS have prided themselves in always being available to those in need and actively support veterans all over the United States.
The Lodge Building is available for weddings and parties upon request. The lodge boasts a 250 seat dining room, the adjacent lodge room can function as a 200 person dance hall and the lodge has a very spacious and functioning kitchen next to both rooms. The bar-room, located on the first floor, is a sight to be seen. The bar & back bar date back to the historic town of Red Mountain. The room is a great example of Victorian elegance meeting western charm.
Visiting ELKS are always welcome to Lodge meetings every Thursday @ 7 PM in the winter and every second & fourth Thursday @ 7 PM through the summer.
